A fully functional cow horn bugle. An interesting eye-catcher for medieval, viking and music fans.
Due to the nature of the product, the horn will be around 12 inches long, but could be smaller or larger.
This polished Oxhorn blowing horn has been hand crafted in a time-honoured fashion that dates back to the days of the Vikings.
Traditionally used more for signalling than for music, horns have been used as sounding cries by many ancient societies - as a means of spreading messages, summoning people to meetings or festivals or to warn people of your approach.
How to play the Bugle
These horns do not require reeds. The instruments natural shape is used to create a booming sound. Hold the horn close to the mouthpiece with one hand and towards the centre of the instrument with your other hand to ensure stability. Purse your lips tightly against the edges of the mouthpiece, holding your lips straight and tight and close together. Blow strongly and consistently into the mouthpiece while pursing your lips. Your lip's vibrations will create a buzzing sound in the mouthpiece that resonates throughout the instrument.
As this product uses natural raw materials, no two pieces are the same. Some are also lighter and darker than others. The photos are for illustrative purposes only. However, this adds to the value of the item, as what you receive is a unique and special piece.
No cruelty is involved in these items. Antlers are either shed naturally annually, or the bone or horns are by-products of the meat industry (indeed, they would otherwise end up in a landfill!).
